KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 30): UEM Edgenta Bhd chairman Amir Hamzah Azizan has joined UEM Group Bhd's board as a non-executive director (ED) effective Dec 1.

In a statement today, UEM Group said Amir Hamzah has 27 years of industry and international experience as well as extensive knowledge of the oil and gas industry, and marine logistics sector.

He started his career within the Shell Group of Companies for 10 years, serving in various capacities, including as head of financial services and manager of planning and support at Sarawak Shell Bhd, corporate finance executive at Shell Malaysia Ltd, marketing credit accountant at Shell Singapore Pte Ltd. He was also an internal auditor at Shell Eastern Petroleum Pte Ltd and a senior treasury advisory at Shell International Ltd in London.

In 2000, he joined MISC Bhd where his last held position was as president and chief executive officer (CEO). He was then named the managing director (MD) and CEO of Petronas Dagangan Bhd and subsequently appointed group MD and CEO of Petronas Lubricants International.

In March 2016, he was appointed MD of Icon Offshore Bhd and thereafter resigned on Nov 30.

Meanwhile, UEM Edgenta has appointed Datuk George Stewart Labrooy as its independent non-ED, also from Dec 1.

UEM Group said Labrooy, who has over 40 years of experience in manufacturing, operations management, property development and REIT management, was the CEO and ED of Axis REIT Managers Bhd until December 2015.

He spearheaded the formation of the Malaysian REIT Managers Association where he served as its chairman for five years and is currently a board member of the Asia-Pacific Real Estate Association.

He currently serves as the executive chairman of Area Management Sdn Bhd, the manager of the AREA Industrial Development Fund 1 which develops high grade industrial projects and estates in Malaysia.
