KUALA LUMPUR (June 7): Aluminium Company of Malaysia Bhd (Alcom) sees aluminium prices staying above US$2,000 per tonne for the next six months.

On June 6, London Metal Exchange (LME) aluminium climbed as much as 1.4% to US$2,345 a tonne, the highest since May 10.

Aluminium prices are fluctuating more than it's fundamentally justified, its chief executive officer cum president Heon Chee Shyong said, adding that "it is rather geo-political influenced at the moment".

For its prospect, the aluminium sheet and foil products maker expected a strong year for its financial ending Dec 31, 2018 (FY18) despite geopolitical risk and external headwinds.

Alcom shares ended the morning session unchanged at 76.5 sen, with 27,100 shares done, bringing a market capitalisation of RM103.43 million.
