KUALA LUMPUR (May 2): AirAsia X Bhd gained 1.5 sen or 3% on news the budget airline flew 33% more passengers in the first quarter of this year (1Q17) from a year earlier on higher travel demand.

Last Friday, AirAsia X announced that it carried 1.4 million passengers in 1Q17 compared to 1.06 million.

As 10:57am today, AirAsia X shares were transacted at 46.5 sen with some 45 million shares traded. AirAsia X was the second most-active stock across Bursa Malaysia.

Public Investment Bank Bhd analyst Nur Farah Syifaa' Mohamad Fu'ad wrote in a note today that the research firm maintained its outperform call on AirAsia X shares with an unchanged target price at 53 sen.

"We expect AAX (AirAsia X) to have another good start for the year," Nur Farah Syifaa' said.

She said AirAsia X was scheduled to announce its first quarter results this May 23.
