KUALA LUMPUR(June 8): AirAsia Bhd has upped its stake in Rokki Sdn Bhd which supplies inflight entertainment and communication systems to the airline, from 73% to 83%.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the budget carrier said it acquired the additional 10% stake, comprising 120,000 shares, for RM2.5 million, from Sami Joseph El Hadery (96,000) and Clarence Lim Kee Kiat (24,000).

Post-acquisition, Sami will hold the balance 17% stake.

AirAsia said acquiring the additional stake would allow the airline to enjoy additional share of profits, and a higher equity stake for strategic maneuverability.

Rokki has two distinct businesses — the trading of multimedia content and equipment and the design, development, sale and supply of inflight entertainment and communication systems and sale of data for inflight use, by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Rokki Avionics Sdn Bhd.

Rokki supplies the inflight entertainment and communication systems and other related services solely to AirAsia. This is in line with the airline’s goal to enhance customer experience and convenience onboard flights.

AirAsia’s share price fell two sen or 0.59% today to RM3.34, for a market capitalisation of RM11 billion.
