KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 13): Shares of low cost carrier AirAsia Bhd are worth RM6, according to its chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.

Fernandes, who is the founder of Tune Air Sdn Bhd, which introduced the first budget no-frills airline, also appeared to brush off a rumour of him retiring any time soon.

In a tweet earlier this morning, Fernandes said: “I told analysts we were worth RM3 when we were 70 sen. Now I say we are worth RM6. There is no airline that has as much growth as AirAsia with a huge digital strategy that has assets worth more than our present market capitalisation.”

In the series of tweets, he also said: “Laughable that there is a rumour I’m retiring. My announcement is exciting one that charts our future of AirAsia.”

He said in another tweet: "So not going anywhere. Exciting times ahead."

AirAsia yesterday closed 0.31% or 1 sen lower at RM3.19 with 13.16 million shares traded.
