SEPANG (May 20): The AirAsia Group has launched a brand new route between Kuala Lumpur and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with a frequency of three direct flights a week and set to commence on July 16, making AirAsia the only airline to serve this route.

In a statement issued today, the airline group said the brand new route will be operated by AirAsia Berhad (fundamental: 0.2; valuation: 0.8) with the flight code AK, and the aircraft type will be Airbus A320 with a capacity of 180 passengers.

This is the group’s fourth route into Taiwan. It currently connects Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Bali to the city of Taipei via AirAsia X Bhd (flight code D7), AirAsia Bhd (flight code AK) and Indonesia AirAsia X (flight code XT).

AirAsia Bhd’s Head of Commercial Spencer Lee commented, “The beauty of the AirAsia Group’s network is exactly this — we are able to connect the dots from the various hubs that we have throughout the region and offer unbeatable connectivity to all of our guests.

“We’ve seen strong demand for travel between Malaysia and Taiwan, and having this new direct route into Kaohsiung will ease travelling plans for the communities of Southern Taiwan to connect to Kuala Lumpur and beyond,” he said.

Lee also expressed his gratitude towards the Tourism Bureau of Kaohsiung and Kaohsiung International Airport for their support and assistance in setting up this exciting new route.

“This second entry point into Taiwan provides opportunities for our guests to be creative with their travel plans. They can now easily plan to fly into Taipei, explore Taiwan from the North to South, and head back to KL from Kaohsiung or vice versa.

“We hope that this brand new route will excite the market and we look forward to work with the tourism bodies to further promote both cities in Taiwan,” added Spencer.

AirAsia said introductory promotional all-in-fares from as low as RM88 one-way are available to celebrate the announcement of this brand new route. The fares can be booked online at www.airasia.com from May 20–27.

The travel period for this promotional fare will be from July 16, 2015 until May 31, 2016.

According to the statement, Kaohsiung has much to offer visitors, such as its Yushan National Park, Kenting Beach, Pier-2 Art Center, Dream Mall, Liouhe Night Market among others.
