KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 10): Low-cost carrier AirAsia Bhd today reached its 300 millionth guest flown across its network, 23 months after hitting the 200 millionth mark in September 2013.

30-year-old Jakarta-based art director Jodie Lazuardie's flight booking from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta earned him the privilege of being AirAsia's 300 millionth passenger, and a 3 million BIG Points from AirAsia's loyalty programme (AirAsia BIG).

AirAsia (fundamental: 0.20; valuation: 1.40) co-founder and group chief executive office (CEO) Tony Fernandes and AirAsia BIG CEO Alice Goh presented the 3 million BIG Points to Lazuardie at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place.

Lazuardie will be able to utilise the 3 million BIG Points to redeem hundreds of free flights within AirAsia's flight network.

Fernandes said in a statement that AirAsia merely had two aircrafts in operation and was supported by 250 staff across five destinations in Malaysia when they started the low-cost carrier 14 years ago.

"Today, we have established operations in five countries including Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia. We will continue to revolutionise air travel and give back to the communities in which we operate," he added.

AirAsia X Bhd co-founder and group CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said that the group hopes to connect more places, people, and communities through AirAsia's and AirAsia X's low fares and route connectivity.

AirAsia Group announced celebratory fares on three million seats from as low as RM3 one way across Asean and beyond, such as Maldives, Hyderabad, Kaohsiung, Nanning, Xi'an, Osaka and Seoul, from Kuala Lumpur. Guests are also able to fly to Singapore, Manila and Kochi from Penang, as well as Lombok, Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City from Johor Bahru.

The promo seats are available until Aug 16, for travel period between Feb 15, 2016 and Aug 31, 2016.

AirAsia Bhd closed at RM1.30, down 2.99% or 4 sen, with a market capitalisation of RM3.73 billion.
