SEOUL (Jan 13): AirAsia’s CEO Tony Fernandes said it’s time for him to leave Twitter.

“Social media has become an angry place,” Fernandes said in a post on Twitter when explaining his decision to leave the social network, adding that the platform is full of “negativity and falsehood and anger.” He said the “time to coming to shut down” his account, without specifying a date.

The founder of the low-cost carrier AirAsia Group Bhd quit Facebook last year shortly after the live streaming of the New Zealand mass shooting on the platform.

Fernandes, who has amassed 1.3 million followers on Twitter, described himself as a “believer in positivity” and a number of his recent tweets have messages against hatred.

The CEO previously suggested that he may shut down his account when he closed down his Facebook profile. He also shut down his Twitter account in 2014, sending a bold final message to his followers at the time. “Stand up for what you believe, fight oppression and most importantly, enjoy life.”
