SEPANG (Dec 13): AirAsia Bhd announced today Riad Asmat's appointment as chief executive officer (CEO) as part of the budget airline's senior leadership changes in line with the group's new digitalisation strategy.

In separate statements to Bursa Malaysia, AirAsia said Riad's appointment starts on Jan 10, 2018. AirAsia said Riad will take over the post from current AirAsia CEO Aireen Omar.

"With effect from Jan 9, 2018, Cik Aireen Omar will be promoted to Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer Digital Transformation & Corporate Services," AirAsia said.

At a press conference here today, AirAsia group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said Riad will report directly to AirAsia Deputy Group CEO (Airlines Business) Bo Lingam.

Fernandes said in a statement: "Riad's appointment and Aireen's transition will provide support for continued success."
