KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): AirAsia Bhd said an online scam has been circulating via social media, where the budget airline was said to be offering free flights to the public after completing a survey.

In a statement today, AirAsia said the company and its affiliates had not conducted the survey.

"AirAsia would like to clarify that this survey is not conducted by the airline or any of its affiliates, and confirm that this is a scam which uses the AirAsia brand without authorisation.

"We advise the public to disregard such invitations and AirAsia shall not be held liable for any claims pertaining to the false scheme," AirAsia said.

AirAsia said it did not enlist third-party services to organise activities and any announcements were made via official channels.

These channels include credible mass media and the airline's social media channels, according to the company.

"We will not hesitate to take legal action against individuals or groups who organise illegal schemes using the AirAsia brand, and a police report has been lodged with regards to this scam.

"When in doubt or to report on suspected scams using the AirAsia brand, the public may get in touch with AirAsia via official communication channels," AirAsia said.

At 3:33pm, AirAsia shares traded unchanged at RM2.84 for a market value of RM7.88 billion. The stock saw some 10 million shares traded.
