KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 28): AirAsia and AirAsia X ticket buyers have been warned to keep a watch out for bogus travel agents, after several people fell victim over discounted ticket advertisements on Facebook and Instagram.

AirAsia group said it has lodged a police report following complaints from people, adding it is prepared to take legal action against the individuals or groups that allegedly organise illegal schemes using the AirAsia brand.

“As a widely known airline in Malaysia and across the region, the AirAsia brand has been repeatedly violated by unscrupulous parties with deceitful motives and intention to cheat the general public.

“As a responsible airline, we have been constantly updating the public about the latest scams that have been misusing our brand for illegitimate gains,” the group said in a statement.

The budget carrier advised people to stay away from any offers or propositions from third parties claiming to be representing the airline.

It said travelers should only book flights on their websites, its affiliates such AirAsiaGo and official sales centres listed on its website, and to contact the airlines through its social media platform, and website if in doubt.

At 3.14pm, AirAsia’s share price was unchanged at RM2.62, with 8.3 million shares done, for a market capitalisation of RM8.8 billion.

AirAsia X dipped one sen or 2.47% to 39.5 sen earlier today, with 18.4 million shares traded, valuing the group at RM1.7 billion.
