KUALA LUMPUR: Baling member of parliament Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim has resigned as chairman of Lembaga Tabung Haji, a Tabung Haji official confirmed yesterday.

The Tabung Haji official, who declined to be named, told The Edge Financial Daily that Abdul Azeez had tendered his resignation.

Reports emerged yesterday in local dailies stating that Abdul Azeez whose contract as Tabung Haji chairman was only supposed to expire mid next year, had tendered his resignation.

The reports stated that Abdul Azeez handed in his resignation a few days after Pakatan Harapan’s historical win in the general election on May 9.

However, it is understood that Section 6(6) of the Tabung Haji Act 1995 stipulates that a board member of Tabung Haji may at any time resign giving notice in writing to the minister. Tabung Haji comes under the purview of the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Deparment.

It is unclear at this point which ministry will oversee Tabung Haji under the new Pakatan Harapan administration.

Meanwhile, Umno Supreme Council member Abdul Azeez confirmed yesterday that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers “visited” his houses and office on Tuesday.
