KUALA LUMPUR (July 10): 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd’s chief executive officer (CEO) Gary Thomas Brown has stepped down from his role in the group, citing “personal reasons”, it said in its filing with Bursa Malaysia today.

The group has named its non-executive director Ho Meng as Brown’s successor, who will assume his new position as CEO effective Aug 1, 2017.

According to the group 2016 annual report, as at March 31, 2017, Brown, who is Australian, held 100,000 shares or a 0.01% stake in 7-Eleven, while Ho Meng owns 90,000 shares or a 0.01% stake.

Brown was appointed to 7-Eleven’s board as non-independent executive director and CEO on Aug 26, 2014. He is primarily responsible for supervising the performance and strategic directions of the 7-Eleven Malaysia Group.

Prior to joining 7-Eleven, Brown was appointed as director of business development of Berjaya Group Bhd in October 2013, where he served until December 2013 before taking up the role of deputy CEO of 7-Eleven Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, Ho Meng was appointed by 7-Eleven as non-independent executive director on Aug 21, 2013 before being re-designated as non-independent non-executive director on April 29, 2016.

“He has extensive working experience in various financial and senior management positions with a number of private and public listed companies including several years in external and internal auditing since he began his professional career with a public accounting firm in 1979,” the group said in its annual report.

Ho Meng was also serving DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd for almost a decade after joining in 1995 when its mobile telecommunications service was launched, and was the chief financial officer when he left in 2005.
