(Oct 21): PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli today raised concerns over a move by an Islamic education institution owned by Federal Territories Islamic Council (MAIWP) to house its students in a building that has yet to receive the certificate of fitness (CF).

In a press conference at the Parliament lobby, Rafizi said that Baitulmal Professional Institute (IPB) had placed 500 students at such a building in Kajang.

The building also had no water supply due to the lack of a CF, he added.

"This institution comes under the responsibility of the Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom," he said, urging the minister to visit the area to witness for himself the condition of the students.

He said he had received "numerous complaints" about the situation at IPB and planned to reveal more about the placement of students in a building that had not been declared fit.

"MAIWP also is yet to agree to a rental terms agreement with the building owner," he said.

He said a letter issued by the Sepang Municipal Council in early September confirmed that the building was not fit for occupation, adding that the students had been relocated there anyway. – The Malaysian Insider
