KUALA LUMPUR (April 11): Bersih 2.0 has recorded 48 general election offences to date, with 38 allegedly committed by Barisan Nasional and two by Pakatan Harapan.

The remaining eight offences recorded were not linked to any particular party.

The electoral reform group said the offences included providing treats and gifts, undue government handouts and inducement, use of government machinery, biased behaviour by public institutions, electoral roll and phantom voters, racial politics, and political violence, intimidation and harassment.

To monitor the election-related offences, Bersih has launched the Pemantau operations centre together with rights groups Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) and Pusat Komunikasi Masyarakat (Pusat Komas).

"Pemantau is a peoples' initiative to prevent cheating and wrongdoings during GE14,” the three groups said in a joint statement.

“Pemantau will monitor the actions of the Election Commission, political parties and candidates throughout the general election period. Any wrongdoing or cheating would be reported and legal action would be taken if necessary," they said.

Pemantau currently has 100 coordinators nationwide, supported by 500 volunteers.
