KUALA LUMPUR (March 29): Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, at 923 or about 40% of the total infections recorded in the country, which stood at 2,320 cases as at noon yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur recorded 344 cases or 14.83% of the total, making it the state with the second-highest confirmed tally, according to a map shared by the National Security Council via an instant messaging service app. The map was tabulated based on data from the Ministry of Health.

These cases in the nation’s capital were recorded in four locations: Lembah Pantai (218), which is the single most affected district, followed by Titiwangsa (51); Kepong (50); and Cheras (25). 

Selangor, which has a total of 579 cases, is the only other state or territory that has more than 200 cases recorded in a specific district, namely in Petaling (209) and Hulu Langat (206). Eight other districts in the state that have recorded cases are: Gombak (57); Klang (51); Kuala Selangor (18): Kuala Langat (14); Sepang (11); Hulu Selangor (9); and Sabak Bernam (one); three more cases remain under investigation.

The tally in Selangor excludes neighbouring Putrajaya, which has 20 confirmed cases. 

After Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Johor has the third highest Covid-19 cases, at 285, recorded in Kluang (97), Johor Bahru (87), Batu Pahat (34), Kulai (19), Muar (18), Pontian (11), Kota Tinggi (7), Segamat (5), Tangkak (4) and Mersing (3). 

The fourth most affected state is Sabah, with 197 cases that are split across 15 districts, with the three most affected locations being Tawau (57), Lahad Datu (34), and Kota Kinabalu (30). 

The fifth on the list is Perak, with 165 cases, split across 10 districts and led by Kinta (66); Hilir Perak (53); and Kerian (12). Next is Negeri Sembilan, with 153 cases, with the top affected areas being Seremban (101); Rembau (26); and Tampin (14). 

Then comes Sarawak, with 118 cases, with the highest recorded in Kuching (72); Miri (8); and Betong (8). The eighth most affected state on the list is Kelantan, with 108 cases, split across eight districts, with the bulk of the cases found in Kota Bharu (68). 

Other states have under 100 cases, the highest being Penang at 86 cases, followed by Pahang (84); Kedah (74); Terengganu at 45; Melaka (42); Putrajaya (20); Perlis (10); and Labuan (10).

Of the confirmed cases yesterday, 320 patients have been discharged while 27 have succumbed to the disease. 

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is scheduled to address a press conference on the tally’s daily updates at 5pm today.
