KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven candidates are in the running for the chief executive officer (CEO) position in FGV Holdings Bhd, said chairman Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid.

But only two candidates are from within FGV, he added.

“That appointment is important because we need someone to head the operations ... hopefully, [it will be announced] very soon,” said Azhar.

The CEO position was left vacant after Datuk Zakaria Arshad resigned on Sept 18, soon after he was suspended on Sept 13 amid investigations into the plantation group’s top management.

Zakaria held the position from April 1, 2016. He survived a boardroom tussle with former FGV chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad last year, amid a probe into improprieties concerning the extension of credit by an FGV unit to a client.

FGV is currently undergoing a rationalisation exercise under Azhar’s stewardship to enhance its value and overall performance.
